If you have been turned down for, or have turned down six, then there is a new system called UCAS Extra, which allows you to make a further choice. What happens next at Gray’s From applying to UCAS to beginning your course can seem like a long process. Send in your application as soon as possible, you’ll then receive an acknowledgement from UCAS and they will send your details to the Universities you have applied to. Each University will let you know when they have received these. Next you will be asked to an interview where we will make a decision on whether to offer you a place, and the next letter will be either: • A conditional offer, dependant on exam results • An unconditional offer if you already have the qualifications necessary • A rejection The way we make these decisions is based on looking at a portfolio of your work and talking to you at interview. The BA course interviews all applicants for both entry into first year and direct entry. The interview process is informal and consists of series of 1 to 1 discussions. The BDes courses also look at a portfolio of your work and conduct group interviews. We are not trying to catch you out or trip you up during the interviews. Rather you should see it as an opportunity for you to tell us about the work in your portfolio, a chance to meet staff, see the college and get a feel for the educational environment. If you are given a conditional offer, once you have your exam results: • If they are sufficient, your offer will be confirmed • If you don’t get the expected grades, you should contact us to discuss your position • If you don’t get the grades and there are no places left, you can still be entered into the clearing process for another suitable course. UCAS will then send you an official offer – it is only official when you have accepted an offer from UCAS, not the individual University! Clearing If you don’t get the exam results that you hoped for, don’t panic. There is still a good chance you could find another course through Clearing. The Clearing process runs from the middle of July 2006 and helps to place students who have not already secured a place at University. In Clearing, you can apply for any course that has places left. Lists of courses with vacancies are published from the middle of August until late September. The University runs a Clearing Advice Line During this period which you can call: 01224 262180 Money Money – one of the most important issues. What does it cost to be a student at RGU in Aberdeen?
